Editorial: The Joy of Garbage Response

Reading and watching the video made me change my views towards the government and the corporations that control the world. Before reading and seeing the video i thought people were put in safety and that everything seemed to be equal and right but when it comes to resources and trash , the developing countries seemed to suffer a bit more. The system about producing things and then disposing it is rediculous. Annie Leonard from the video, The Story of Stuff, shares how 4,000,000,000 pounds of pollution is released every year and exposed to everyone around the world. Scary to know even before things are disposed , they are already affecting. What surprised me was the part were she said that even when trash is burned it creates even worse pollution because chemicals are mixed even more. People create this and are also taken as an advantage because they have no other choice. What bothered  me was the part were it said all those toxic wastes affect the breast feeding of mothers , which affects the babies. One thing I found very interesting was the part were Justine Parker, the writer of The Joy of Garbage, shares how ," 4.4 pounds of household waste per day, which calculates to 1600 pounds per year". There are billions of people around the world creating trash, so it makes me think about how much trash is being thrown away and how much is on the surface of our earth.

Garbology Chapter 3

Edward points out the problem of consuming and how those things end up in the landfill,Puente Hills located in Los Angeles. For example Big Mike, one of the workers in Puente Hills, shares how most things that are advertised either way ends up in the landfill sooner than you can possibly think. Thinking about all the things that are advertised to people made me feel a bit guilty since I, myself, has bought things and as soon as I get bored I throw it away. I noticed that people do not realize how what they throw and how they have created this a life style were u can get rid of things and not have to worry about were it ends up. What I find annoying is that in most of the American's mind , they believe that consuming will help the economy but in reality is making the problem about trash advance further more.

Garbology Chapter 2

      Edward takes us back in time through the streets of New York City. He shares the situation people were facing during that time and how they took action towards it. He mentions how a group of people made by a Civil War Veteran were able to come up with a plan to make New York City clean from the trash invasion. Even if different types of methods were used, even if they were carried on by many who were inspired by it, they were not able to see how the problem with trash will continue to be there. People have tried to ignored the facts about trashy homes streets etc. but will continue to grow and how creating more landfills and burning or burying the trash is causing the problem to expand more. The ways they used before have not changed they've just been rearranged in the most modern way which has made no difference. In fact burning the chemicals in the trash has made it more deadly that it has become far more dangerous now.

Garbology Chapter 1

      Reading Garbology's introduction soon got me hooked to it. I was aware of the television series of Hoarders were as it shows that many people around the US create a home of trash. Before starting  this book I never understood how dangerous it can be to be surrounded by trash and how we give it so much power. As I approached and read Chapter 1 I was amazed by some of the facts that were given. Edward shares how "building a garbage mountain is difficult, edgy, dangerous work" (Humes21). I never knew working in a landfill of garbage would be extremely dangerous that it can be deadly. I can honestly say that it is scary to know that one day the world will be invaded by all the trash us people throw and create everyday. There has been many methods that have been used yet at the end of the day the question we all get is where will all the trash go. What I find very annoying is how we create this deadly trash that most can not be removed or crushed until it finally disappears.
